Bosphorus Cruise
The boat trip on the Bosporus is one of the activities you can not miss in Istanbul, the prices are really affordable and the views, both day and night, are fantastic.
During the tour you will see several palaces (among them Bylerbeyi, Ciragan and Dolmabahçe) and you will enjoy the lively life of Istanbul. Throughout the whole trip you will see how the atmosphere of the city is not only reduced to the historic center (especially in summer).
What is the Bosporus?
The Bosphorus is a strait that connects the Black Sea with the Sea of Marmara separating Istanbul into two parts: European and Asian. The total length of the strait is 30 kilometers and the width ranges from 700 meters to almost 4 kilometers from the exit to the Black Sea.
To cross the strait there are two bridges: the Boğaziçi (to the south) and the Fatih Sultan Mehmed (to the north). Both have a very similar length of just over a kilometer.
The crossroads of seas and continents that converge in the Strait of the Bosphorus was decisive when establishing the location of Constantinople.
Types of excursions
Of the different types of excursions that you will find, we recommend those that last at least an hour and a half and arrive until the second bridge of the Bosphorus.
Upon reaching the second bridge you can see the Rumeli Hisar Fortress, a castle built in the middle of the 16th century to prevent the Byzantine fleet from crossing the strait.
If you have plenty of time in Istanbul and want to do a longer excursion, there is a boat bound for "Bogaz Iskelesi" which takes 1.5 hours each way. When you get there you will have almost two hours to visit the village and eat in one of its restaurants. This boat has three departure times: 10:35, 12:00 and 13:35.
Choose the cruise that you choose, if you want to have a good seat you must arrive at the ship at least 15 minutes before your departure.
