Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts

The Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts is one of the most important museums in Istanbul and is located in one of the most historical buildings, the Ibrahim Pasa Palace.

The palace was built when Ibrahim Pasa, vizier of Sultan Soliman the Magnificent, married the latter's daughter. Since the assassination of Ibrahim Pasa in 1536 (he was accused of treason), the building has been used for various purposes.

In 1983 and after discarding other buildings, this palace was chosen to house the museum. Its location next to the Hippodrome and the Blue Mosque is enviable.
Collection

The museum's collection is made up of more than 40,000 objects from different categories: carpets, ceramics, sculptures, sarcophagi and even various versions of the Koran and lecterns to read. One of the objects that caught our attention was the Gate of the Great Mosque of Cizre.

In addition to the collection of objects, in the museum there is a small and interesting ethnological section where you can see recreations of daily life in different geographic and temporary points of Turkey.
